Coating

A coating is a thin layer of material applied to a base material. The coating serves to add properties that the base material lacks.

Glass-specific

An addition to the surface of the glass after the packaging has been formed. Coatings can be applied both to improve the strength of the glass (i.e., cold-end coating and hot-end coating) and to enhance its appearance (for example, to alter the light transmission of the glass or to add color).
